April: What is Grade 1 studying?

ELA:

Module 3: Birds’ Amazing Bodies

Module Summary: In this module, students build their literacy skills as they engage in an in-depth study of birds’ bodies. In unit 2 of this module, students engage in small group research using the text Beaks by Sneed B. Collard III. They will  read, write, and talk about the text as they answer the research question: “How do birds use their beaks to survive?” In unit 3, students participate in another research cycle to study a specific bird to learn about how that bird’s key parts help it survive in its habitat. Within expert groups, will answer the unit guiding question: “How do specific birds use their body parts to survive?”

Eureka Math: 

Module 4: Place Value, Comparison, Addition, and Subtraction to 40 

Students will...

  • write and interpret two-digit numbers 
  • compare quantities using symbols ( >, <, =)
  • use tape diagrams as representations 
  • add two-digit numbers 

Module 5: Identifying, Composing, and Partitioning Shapes 

Students will…

  • classify shapes based on defining attributes 
  • find and name two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes 
  • create composite shapes 
  • name and count parts of a whole 
  • partition shapes 
  • construct a clock and recognize halves

First Grade, what to expect?


Homework is a crucial part of your child's active learning process and essential to their academic progress. Please make sure that all homework is completed daily.  

Remember to read with your child every night for at least 20 minutes and talk with your child about the story.
 
  • Math homework will be given almost every night on Zearn to match the daily lesson in school.
  • Read every night.
  • Respond to books using examples from the text.
