Go Math!

  •

Go Math! lessons are designed to fully facilitate conceptual development, as students work from introduction to mastery of each content standard listed in the Common Core. Throughout the lessons, students will use manipulatives, models, quick pictures, and symbols as they apply Mathematical Practices to build understanding. Students are expected to actively engage in reasoning during instruction, so they are prepared to transition from concept or skills comprehension to solving problems in contextual situations.

     –Go Math! Implementation Guide

In kindergarten, students will learn number names 0-20, count in sequence, compare numbers, understand addition, identify and describe shapes, classify objects, and describe length and width.

In first grade, students will learn to add and subtract within 20, understand place value, use place value understanding and properties of operations to add and subtract, measure lengths, tell and write time, represent and interpret data, and reason with shapes and their attributes

In second grade, students will use place value understanding and properties of operations to add and subtract within 100, measure length using the appropriate tools, tell and write time on analog and digital clocks, solve word problems involving money, and recognize and draw shapes given the number of angles or faces.

In third grade, students will understand properties of multiplication and division and be able to represent and solve problems, develop an understanding of fractions as numbers, reason with shapes, solve problems involving measurement and estimation of intervals of time, liquid, volume, and mass.

In fourth grade, students will use the four operations with whole numbers to solve problems, multiply multi-digit whole numbers, extend their understanding of fraction equivalence and ordering, build fractions from unit fractions, draw and identify lines and angles and classify shapes by properties of their lines and angles.

In fifth grade, students will write and interpret numerical expressions, perform operations with multi-digit whole numbers and with decimals, use equivalent fractions to add and subtract fractions, multiply and divide fractions, represent and interpret data in a line plot, understand concepts of volume, and graph points on the coordinate plane.
